Teaching Statistical Replication: A Hands-on Workshop
Students often learn statistics through tidy textbook examples, with clean data, clear answers and little connection to the research they read in other courses. Replication changes that. When students re-run the analysis from a published study, they work with real data and real research questions, and they make the kind of decisions researchers make every day. They learn to read methods sections closely, see how choices in an analysis shape its results, and think critically about how much confidence a finding deserves.
This workshop shows how to bring replication into statistics and quantitative methods courses. We'll introduce the new replicatED database of replication datasets and walk through how to use it in your teaching, whether you want to design a full assignment, build a short in-class exercise, or give students a reason to care about the methods they're learning.
